閉著眼，我沉浸在小提琴與吉他相互纏繞的地帶，試圖體會 Kansas 以西方的寓意描繪東方佛家中，佛法的核心要旨「萬物到(盡)頭皆是空」的真義。然而，在音樂的符號裡，我依舊選擇讓耳朵接收到的旋律帶領著我，在腦海中描繪各種由音樂產生的、自我想像的圖樣，縱使朦朧虛無，仍然自醉～
Kansas - Monolith (1979)
1973年正式成軍的美國前衛搖滾樂團 Kansas (堪薩斯)，在'70年代當英國與歐陸前衛搖滾風潮橫行天下的時候，可算是美國前衛樂團的唯一精神棟樑，有受過古典樂訓練的小提琴手 Robby Steinhardt 這個團員，使他們大量地運用小提琴擔任主要配音樂器，鍵盤手兼吉他手 Kerry Livgren 與嗓音渾厚高亢的主唱 Steve Walsh，也融入美國人最引以為傲的藍調作為編曲基調，為 Kansas 譜寫了不少膾炙的經典名曲，形成獨樹一格的前衛搖滾風格。
然而，世人對這第一個以美國地名作為團名、第一個將小提琴大量融入搖滾樂的樂團，最有印象的兩首歌，或許仍屬 "Carry On Wayward Son" 和 "Dust in the Wind" ，沒有翻到另一面，就容易忽略了其他好歌吧......
