If I could save time in a bottle The first thing that I like to do Is to save everyday till eternity passes away Just to spend them with you
If I could make days last forever If words could make wishes come true I'd save everyday like a treasure And then again I would spend them with you
But there never seem to be enough time to do the things you want to do Once you've found them I've looked around enough to know That you're the one I want to go through the time with
If I had a box just for wishes and dreams that had never come true The box would be empty Except for the memory of how they were answered by you
翻開對70'年代抒情搖滾的印象,古典搖滾樂團 Kansas (堪薩斯)的「Dust In The Wind」與「House Of The Rising Sun」、「Heart Of Gold」,一直是記憶體中必備的儲存。
Kansas - Point Of Know Return (1977)
Kansas - Dust In The Wind
I close my eyes Only for a moment, then the moment's gone All my dreams Pass before my eyes, a curiosity Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind
Same old song Just a drop of water in an endless sea All we do Crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind
Don't hang on Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky It slips away All your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind Dust in the wind (Everything is dust in the wind) Everything is dust in the wind
Kansas - On The Other Side Written by Kerry Livgren

Hoverin' by my suitcase, tryin' to find a warm place to spend the night Heavy rain fallin', seems I hear your voice callin', 'It's all right' A rainy night in Georgia, a rainy night in Georgia It seems like it's rainin' all over the world I feel like it's rainin' all over the world
Neon signs a-flashin', taxi cabs and buses passin' through the night A distant moanin' of a train seems to play a sad refrain to the night A rainy night in Georgia, such a rainy night in Georgia Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world I feel like it's rainin' all over the world
How many times I wondered It still comes out the same No matter how you look at it or think of it It's life and you just got to play the game
I find me a place in a boxcar, so I take my guitar to pass some time Late at night when it's hard to rest I hold your picture to my chest and I feel fine But it's a rainy night in Georgia, baby, it's a rainy night in Georgia I feel it's rainin' all over the world, kinda lonely now And it's rainin' all over the world
Oh, have you ever been lonely, people? And you feel that it was rainin' all over this man's world You're talking 'bout rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin'...
後來,他又陸續唱紅了「So Many Ways」、「The Boll Weevil Song」和「Hotel Happiness」等一連串的暢銷曲,和女歌手 Dinah Washington (黛娜‧華盛頓)合唱的「Baby (You've Got What It Takes)」更是暢銷百萬的金唱片。
Tony Joe White - Continued (1969)

Gladys Knight & the Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia
Gladys Knight & The Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia(1973) Written by Jim Weatherly
L.A. proved too much for the man, So he's leavin' the life, he's come to know, He said he's goin' back to find Ooh, what's left of his world, The world he left behind Not so long ago. He's leaving, On that midnight train to Georgia, And he said he's goin' back To a simpler place and time. And I'll be with him On that midnight train to Georgia, I'd rather live in his world Than live without him in mine. He kept dreamin' That someday he'd be a star. But he sure found out the hard way That dreams don't always come true. So he pawned all his hopes and he even sold his old car Bought a one way ticket To the life he once knew, Oh yes he did, He said he would Be leavin' On that midnight train to Georgia, And he said he's goin' back to find To a simpler place and time. And I'll be with him On that midnight train to Georgia, I'd rather live in his world Than live without him in mine. Be leavin' On that midnight train to Georgia, And he said he's goin' back to find To a simpler place and time. And I'll be with him On that midnight train to Georgia, I'd rather live in his world Than live without him in mine. Go, gonna board, gonna board, Gonna board the midnight train. Gotta go, gonna board Gonna board Gonna board the midnight train
There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one
My mother was a tailor She sewed my new blue jeans My father was a gambling man Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and trunk And the only time he's satisfied Is when he's on a drunk
Oh mother, tell your children Not to do what I have done Spend your lives in sin and misery In the House of the Rising Sun
Well, I got one foot on the platform The other foot on the train I'm going back to New Orleans To wear that ball and chain
Well, there is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one
根據民謠學者 Alan Lomax 在1941年的著作「Our Singing Country」中指出,「House Of The Rising Sun」原本是傳統英國歌謠,1862年聯盟佔領紐奧良期間,Marianne LeSoleil Levant 在826-830聖路易斯街開了間妓院,後來因鄰居抱怨,在1874年被迫結束營業: There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun. It's been the ruin of many a poor girl, And me, O God, for one. If I had listened what Mamma said, I'd 'a' been at home today. Being so young and foolish, poor boy, Let a rambler lead me astray. Go tell my baby sister Never do like I have done To shun that house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun. My mother she's a tailor; She sold those new blue jeans. My sweetheart, he's a drunkard, Lord, Lord, Drinks down in New Orleans. The only thing a drunkard needs Is a suitcase and a trunk. The only time he's satisfied Is when he's on a drunk. Fills his glasses to the brim, Passes them around Only pleasure he gets out of life Is hoboin' from town to town. One foot is on the platform And the other one on the train. I'm going back to New Orleans To wear that ball and chain. Going back to New Orleans, My race is almost run. Going back to spend the rest of my days Beneath that Rising Sun. There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun.
這個名叫「House of The Rising Sun」的妓院是否真的存在呢?一本書名為「Offbeat New Orleans」(與眾不同的紐奧良)的旅遊指南堅稱,早在19世紀中晚期,1862年到1874年之間,「House of The Rising Sun」這所妓院的確存在,並且有地址為證︰826-830 St. Louis St.。而「House of The Rising Sun」是以這所妓院的鴇母 Marianne LeSoleil Levant 的姓氏命名;她的姓氏翻譯成英文便是「The Rising Sun」的意思。
