這首耳熟能詳的歌是 John Phillips (爸爸媽媽合唱團成員之一)1967年5月13日以1小時寫好創作、由他的民歌好朋友 Scott McKenzie 演唱發表於著名的 Monterey Pop Festival (蒙特利國際流行音樂節)－－－一個標榜「音樂、愛和鮮花」的流行音樂節。

歌曲描述舊金山當時的輪廓和嬉痞生活的象徵，也是反戰的經典歌曲。
在60年代的美國嬉皮運動中，愛與和平的標榜，就是以花卉作為象徵，在頭髮上配上花朵是對和平的禮讚。

嬉皮是最典型的和平主義者，他們被美國參與越南戰爭的事件所激怒，以無暴力的抗議行動進行反擊，以花為圖騰旗幟及精神象徵，喊出「反對越戰」、「愛與和平」、「不要戰爭、只要做愛」等口號，在示威板、告示牌上大做文章。在這些嬉痞們的抗議中沒有暴力，只是保持沉默、笑顏與無限的苦悶無奈。但在示威遊行中，對武裝的員警部隊，他們從不讓步。

這首歌，就是在提醒前往舊金山的人們，別忘了在頭上戴一朵花，以示對嬉痞反戰運動的認同。
